Shipyard's Sorna among top federal engineers
BREMERTON — Mark Sorna of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility has been selected as a Federal Engineer of the Year by the National Society of Professional Engineers. He and three other Naval Sea Systems Command employees will be recognized during a ceremony Feb. 23 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.Sorna has been the lead engineer on many large design projects. Currently, he's manager for a $34 million project that will triple the shipyard's capacity to dismantle submarines. His project team is transforming the work space to increase capacity and make it possible to simultaneously inactivate up to four submarines of different classes. The improved capacity is expected to save the government nearly $1 billion over 20 years by maximizing the tempo and efficiency of inactivation work.   read more....
